API documentation and details are available on our Company's API Documentation page.
We have created multiple APIs for developers to access our freely available content for non-commercial use:
- Springer Metadata API - Provides metadata for almost 12 million online documents (e.g., journal articles, book chapters, protocols).
- Springer Meta API - Provides new versioned metadata for almost 12 million online documents (e.g., journal articles, book chapters, protocols).
- Springer Open Access API - Provides metadata and full-text content where available for more than 460,000 online documents from Springer open access xml, including BioMed Central and SpringerOpen journals. New: JATS xml formatting has now been added to the list of OpenAccess formats.
- Integro API - Provides a means to access information about Springer’s journals (e.g. Information about the journal’s title, publisher, DOI, subject groups, dates of publication).
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) - Currently, Springer Nature does not offer MCP-based access to our content or platforms for direct use in AI-assisted research workflows. Access to licensed scholarly content continues to be governed through our existing delivery channels and APIs. For information or interest in our existing state of the art APIs, please visit dev.springernature.com to request access to our APIs once you have the appropriate TDM terms in place.
Springer APIs provide a variety of different output formats, including XML and JSON.
