Please refer to information from the COUNTER website and also their YouTube Channel, where they have added a lot of useful information around the new metrics and how to compare C4 and C5 data. We would also like to point out the following details:
TR_J1 (R5) report compared to JR1 (R4) report
- J1 is limited to controlled usage only, it is excluding OA_Gold. That is why it will show lower usage versus JR1 (R4).
- The equation is: ‘TR_J1’ = ‘JR1’ - ‘JR1 GOA’
TR_J2 (R5) report compared to JR2 (R4) report
- "Access_Denied" metric is renamed as "No_License" in C5, but the numbers will be directly comparable.
- TR_J3 (R5) report compared to JR1 / JR1 GOA (R4) report
TR_J3 now shows usage by Access Type: OA_Gold or Controlled
- Total usage of TR_J3 will match JR1 (R4)
TR_J4 (R5) report compared to JR5 (R4) report
- TR_J4 is limited to controlled usage only, it is excluding OA_Gold, so the numbers won’t match between the reports.
- Usage is shown per month (no more aggregated) in TR_J4
TR_B1 (R5) report compared to BR2 (R4) report
- In BR2 we count books by the number of chapters the book contains. All TR_B1 metrics separate book downloads from chapter downloads. Therefore TR_B1 can’t be compared to BR2.
- To compare Springer Nature's TR data with BR2 data, use the method outlined in How to compare book requests in C4 with requests in C5.
TR_B2 (R5) report compared to BR3 (R4) report
- "Access_Denied" metric is renamed as "No_License" in R5, but the numbers will be directly comparable.
TR_B3 (R5) report compared to BR2 (R4) report
- TR_B3 now shows usage by Access Type: OA_Gold or Controlled. To compare Springer Nature's TR data with BR2 data, use the method outlined in How to compare book requests in C4 with requests in C5.
